Sona Farhangyar is the Founder and Executive Director of the Afghan Women Skills and Empowerment Foundation, a Canada-registered nonprofit dedicated to supporting Afghan women and girls.

She is a human rights advocate from Afghanistan who has been actively engaged in promoting women’s rights and supporting vulnerable communities. She has worked with civil society and human rights organizations in Afghanistan.

Sona was among the first women in Takhar province to raise her voice against injustice and restrictions, demonstrating strong commitment to defending women’s rights.

After relocating to Canada, she established the foundation to support women and girls through education, economic empowerment, and psychosocial support.

Over the past two years, she has personally supported community-based education and skills development initiatives for women and girls.

She currently leads the organization and works to create sustainable opportunities
